On Wednesday, 13 August, Centenary Thurles Co-op was delighted to support the Dairy Women Ireland North Munster Region event at Cabragh Wetlands, a wonderful morning that brought families and members of our farming community together to learn, share knowledge and explore our connection with the natural world.
Set in the beautiful surroundings of Cabragh Wetlands, the morning provided an opportunity to discover more about the importance of water quality and biodiversity, and the vital role they play in our farming landscape.
Our visit to the Bird Hide offered a chance to pause and take in the rich wetland habitat surrounding us before setting off on the Cosmic Walk. The group was guided by Michael Long and Tom Gallagher, this fascinating experience encouraged us to look beyond our immediate surroundings and consider our connection with the natural world, while learning about the incredible journey of our planet and the way everything around us is interconnected.
Throughout the morning, attendees heard from a fantastic group of speakers and contributors, including Katie Gleeson (@katieinthecountry), Michael Long, Tom Gallagher, Claire Ryan (Cabragh Wetlands) and guest speaker Claire Mooney (Teagasc). Their knowledge, experience and passion brought the different aspects of the day to life and gave everyone plenty to take away.
For the younger members of the group, there was plenty of opportunity for discovery too. Thanks to Marie Lawlor at Cabragh Wetlands, the children enjoyed pond dipping and got a hands-on introduction to the fascinating aquatic life living within the wetlands. Their enthusiasm and curiosity added a wonderful energy to the morning.
As the morning came to a close, everyone gathered together for refreshments, a sincere thank you to David, Mairead and the catering team for their warm hospitality and for looking after everyone so well, it was very much appreciated.
At Centenary Thurles Co-op, we are proud to support initiatives that bring our farming and local communities together while encouraging greater awareness and practical action to protect our water, biodiversity and natural environment for generations to come.
